Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended senior flight steward Faisal Majeed Pehnwar after he was found attempting to smuggle mobile phones from Canada. Customs officials reportedly discovered 16 mobile phones concealed on his person during a routine passenger customs check, prompting immediate action from PIA’s management.

Show-Cause Notice and Suspension
In a show-cause notice issued by PIA’s General Manager of Flight Services, it was detailed that the phones were found upon Pehnwar’s arrival at Karachi airport. The notice cited a “violation of the employee disciplinary policy,” leading to Pehnwar’s immediate suspension.
PIA’s Stance Against Misuse of Privileges
PIA emphasized that it strictly prohibits any misuse of company privileges or involvement in smuggling activities. The airline has directed Pehnwar to submit a written response within three days to address the allegations.
Ongoing Scrutiny and Smuggling Concerns
This incident has brought further scrutiny to PIA’s operational integrity amid concerns about smuggling activities within the aviation sector, underscoring the need for vigilance and adherence to policies.
