The White House is entering a new chapter with the election of a second Trump presidency, as Usha Vance is set to become the first Indian American to hold the title of second lady. Additionally, she will make history as the first Hindu second lady.

Vance’s Tribute to Her Husband and the American People
Vice President-elect JD Vance expressed his gratitude to his wife, Usha, for her support in his political journey. On social media platform X, he wrote, “THANK YOU! To my beautiful wife for making it possible to do this. To President Donald J. Trump, for giving me such an opportunity to serve our country at this level. And to the American people, for their trust. I will never stop fighting for ALL of you.” The couple, married since 2014, share three children: sons Ewan, 6, and Vivek, 4, and daughter Mirabel, 2.

Usha Vance’s Academic and Professional Background
Before pursuing law, Usha Vance earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University and a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Cambridge. Following her graduation from Yale, she completed several prestigious clerkships, including with Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his tenure on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Vance Reflects on Her Diverse Background
Usha Vance gained attention during the Republican National Committee event in July when she shared her personal story: “My background is very different from JD’s. I grew up in San Diego, in a middle-class community, with two loving parents, both immigrants from India, and a wonderful sister,” she said. “That JD and I could meet at all, let alone fall in love and marry, is a testament to this great country.”
