Jennifer Lopez gave an emotional endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris at a North Las Vegas rally on October 31, rallying voters as part of the “When We Vote, We Win” campaign. This high-profile support comes just days before the November 5 election and follows a controversial remark by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” at a recent Trump rally. Lopez, a prominent figure in the Latin community, joined with Mexican rock band Mana for the event, choosing to focus her energy on a heartfelt speech rather than a performance.

Addressing Offensive Comments and Calling for Unity
Lopez directly addressed Hinchcliffe’s derogatory comment, urging the crowd to stand up for their values. “We should be upset. We should be scared and outraged. Our pain matters. We matter,” she emphasized. Referring to Trump’s rhetoric, Lopez stated, “He reminded us who he is and how he really feels,” saying the comments insulted not only Puerto Ricans but also the wider Latin American community.

A Proud American and Daughter of Puerto Rico
Declaring her pride in her Puerto Rican heritage, Lopez described herself as the daughter of Guadalupe Rodríguez and David Lopez, “proud children of Puerto Rico.” She highlighted her journey as a Latina in Hollywood, stating, “When I started, I was only cast as the maid or the loudmouth Latina, but I knew I had more to offer.” Her words resonated with many who share similar struggles for acceptance and recognition.

Casting Her Vote for Kamala Harris
As she closed her speech, Lopez expressed her commitment to vote for Harris, declaring, “I am a mother, a sister, and I like Hollywood endings, where the good girl wins. I’m voting for Kamala Harris for president of the United States.” Lopez’s passionate speech also echoed the sentiments of other Latin celebrities like Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Rita Moreno, who have defended Puerto Rico against disparaging remarks and voiced their opposition to Trump.

JLo’s Final Call for Positive Leadership
Lopez concluded by reiterating her belief in positive leadership, contrasting her support for Harris with Trump’s divisive tactics. “I’m a lover, not a fighter,” Lopez said, “and I wouldn’t tear anyone down, not even my biggest adversary.” She emphasized that Harris has consistently demonstrated her commitment to uniting Americans, giving Lopez faith in her leadership as the nation approaches a pivotal election.
