Hyundai Motor is recalling approximately 145,235 electrified vehicles in the United States due to a risk of losing drive power. This recall involves certain IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 electric vehicles, as well as luxury Genesis GV60, GV70, and G80 electrified variants from model years 2022 to 2025.
Cause of the Recall
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that integrated charging control units may become damaged, preventing the 12-volt battery from charging. This issue could result in a complete loss of drive power.
Free Inspection and Repairs
Hyundai dealers will offer free inspections, replacements, and software updates for the impacted parts, including the fuse. The affected models include:
- 2022-2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5
- 2023-2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6
- 2023-2025 Genesis GV60
- 2023-2025 Genesis GV70
- 2023-2024 Genesis G80
Previous Recalls for Hyundai
Earlier this year, Hyundai also recalled over 34,000 vehicles due to a sunshade defect in certain 2024 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models. The issue stemmed from the overhead console rear sunshade switch knob, which could cause the sunshade to close unexpectedly, posing an injury risk to passengers. Hyundai dealerships replaced the faulty knobs free of charge.
Additional Recalls
In addition to the sunshade issue, Hyundai had another recall in July affecting over 12,000 vehicles. This recall was due to software malfunctions in the transmission control unit, which could potentially cause the car to roll away while in park. Another recall addressed a fuel pump failure that could lead to a loss of drive power, affecting more than 54,000 vehicles, including:
- 2019-2023 Genesis G70
- 2022-2023 Hyundai Elantra N
- 2022-2023 Hyundai Kona N
- 2019-2022 Hyundai Veloster N
