Los Angeles officials have reported the arrest of 29 individuals for crimes connected to the ongoing wildfires. Among them was a burglary suspect who allegedly impersonated a firefighter.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna disclosed that 25 arrests occurred near the Eaton Fire, while four others were linked to the Palisades Fire evacuation zone.

Impersonation and Burglary
Sheriff Luna recounted a notable incident in Malibu: “I saw someone who appeared to be a firefighter. When I checked on him, it turned out he was in handcuffs for burglarizing a home while dressed as a fireman.”
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonald described another case where three individuals in a vehicle were stopped for being in a restricted area. One suspect wore a firefighter’s jacket and helmet and was arrested for impersonation and attempted burglary.
Curfew and Safety Enforcement
A 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew remains in effect for affected areas. Chief McDonald emphasized the importance of this measure to deter looters and protect public safety personnel working in hazardous conditions, including downed power lines and toxic debris. “Anyone violating the curfew without proper authorization will be subject to arrest,” McDonald warned.
Scammers and Prosecution Warnings
Sheriff Luna issued a stern warning to those exploiting wildfire victims through scams or burglaries, stating that local, state, and federal prosecutors are ready to take swift action. “This is not the time to prey on vulnerable residents,” he said.
Donor Caution for Charitable Efforts
Authorities also advised the public to research charities thoroughly before donating, as scams have emerged targeting those wishing to help wildfire victims.

Invitation to President-Elect Trump
Kathryn Barger, Chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, has extended an invitation to President-elect Trump to visit the wildfire-affected areas. “I look forward to showcasing not only the devastation but also the resilience and hope within our communities,” Barger stated.
Unified Efforts Despite Political Challenges
Barger and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass confirmed active communication with high-ranking officials in the incoming administration. Both rejected claims of animosity, emphasizing their commitment to collaboration during this crisis.
The arrests and ongoing challenges underscore the multi-faceted nature of the wildfire response, from addressing criminal activity to ensuring safety and fostering recovery efforts.
