Emgage Texas hosted a powerful community conversation at Café FiLLi Sugar Land, spotlighting how recent Texas legislative changes are shaping classrooms and the future of education in Fort Bend County. A central theme of the discussion was the impact on bilingual and diverse student populations.

Afshi Charania, Trustee on the Fort Bend ISD Board, stressed that legislative decisions are not distant policies but lived realities that influence students’ daily classroom experiences. She highlighted that evolving laws around curriculum, funding, and bilingual education are creating both new opportunities and pressing challenges for students.

Representing the office of State Rep. Dr. Suleman Lalani, Aaron Burgess shared valuable insights into the legislative process. He explained Dr. Lalani’s priorities on education policy and underlined his commitment to ensuring community voices are reflected in policymaking.
The event drew strong participation from the Pakistani American Voters Association (PAVA), alongside local leaders, executives, educators, and advocates. Nilofer Hafeezi, who served as the session coordinator, skillfully guided the conversation and kept the dialogue sharp and impactful.

A dynamic Q&A session wrapped up the evening, giving community members the chance to raise concerns, ask questions, and engage directly with panelists. This interactive exchange further strengthened understanding of how state policies affect classrooms and children in Fort Bend.
Participants widely praised Emgage for providing this much-needed platform. Many expressed hope that similar forums will continue in the future to keep the community both informed and engaged in shaping education policy.
