The Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission has put forward several proposals aimed at improving women’s safety in public and commercial spaces. These measures include a ban on male tailors from taking women’s measurements, restricting men from training women in gyms and yoga sessions, and introducing female security personnel on school buses.
Proposals to Ensure Women’s Safety in Public and Commercial Spaces
The commission’s recommendations also suggest that women’s clothing stores hire female staff to assist customers and ensure that female security guards are present on school buses. These steps are part of broader efforts to enhance women’s security in both public and commercial environments.
These proposals were discussed during a meeting held on October 28 in Lucknow, where commission members reviewed various initiatives to bolster women’s safety. According to The Times of India, these discussions are still in their preliminary stages, and the feasibility of these measures has yet to be determined. Once finalized, the proposals will be submitted to the state government for further consideration and policy development.

Safety Guidelines Being Implemented in Shamli District
In the meantime, Shamli district probation officer Hamid Hussain has directed local establishments to begin implementing safety guidelines. These include appointing female trainers or instructors in women’s gyms, drama, and yoga centers. Additionally, CCTV systems with DVR capabilities must be installed for better surveillance in these spaces.
Hussain also mandated that school buses in the district must have a female security guard or teacher onboard. Boutiques are required to hire female tailors for measuring women, and CCTV cameras must be installed in these establishments for security purposes. Furthermore, local coaching centers must now have proper restroom facilities for women, along with CCTV camera surveillance.
Local Support for Safety Measures
Local social worker Veena Agrawal has expressed support for these safety measures, emphasizing that they aim to improve the overall safety of women and foster a more supportive environment in public and commercial spaces across Uttar Pradesh.

Haryana Launches Real-Time Tracking for Women’s Safety
In a related development, Haryana police introduced a new real-time tracking feature for women as part of the state’s Emergency Response Support System. This initiative, reviewed by Haryana’s Director General of Police, Shatrujeet Kapur, allows women—particularly those traveling alone at night—to share their live location with the police in Haryana and Gurgaon for added safety. The feature was launched following discussions on a trip monitoring system for women in Gurgaon.
