A family-run pizzeria in Maplewood, New Jersey, is making sure no one in the community goes hungry while federal food benefits remain frozen. Roman Gourmet, a popular local spot, announced that it will provide two free slices of pizza and a soda to anyone who presents a SNAP EBT card.
One of the owners, Vinnie, shared the initiative in a social media video, saying the restaurant has always stood by those in need. “No one will go hungry here in Maplewood at Roman Gourmet,” he said, emphasizing that anyone can stop by at any time to claim the free offer by showing their SNAP card to any staff member.

The gesture comes as SNAP beneficiaries face delays and reduced assistance following a freeze in November benefits. The disruption began after two federal judges allowed the Trump Administration to redirect emergency funding for the program.
While partial funding is expected to resume, it will reportedly cover only about half of the usual monthly benefits. Distribution could still take several weeks or months before reaching EBT cardholders.
In the meantime, businesses like Roman Gourmet are helping fill the gap. “Any time of day, you bring your SNAP card in here, you get two slices and a soda — one hundred percent free,” Vinnie reaffirmed.
