US-based entrepreneur and recipient of the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Mr. Tanweer Ahmed, has pledged USD $250,000 towards Pakistan’s Smart Villages Initiative, a visionary project aimed at bridging the digital divide and empowering rural communities.
In the first phase, five Smart Villages will be developed with an investment of $50,000 each, laying the foundation for more to follow in the coming stages. This initiative will provide communities with access to digital services, e-learning, telehealth, and modern connectivity solutions—transforming lives in underdeveloped regions of Pakistan.

The landmark announcement was made in the presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja. The leadership lauded Mr. Tanweer Ahmed’s commitment to Pakistan’s progress, highlighting it as a shining example of how the Pakistani diaspora continues to play a pivotal role in national development.
Mr. Ahmed, who hails from Sialkot and now resides in Silicon Valley, expressed his resolve to contribute to Pakistan’s digital transformation:
“This is just the beginning. Smart Villages will not only connect people but will also create opportunities for education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship across rural Pakistan.”

The Smart Villages project stands as a testament to public-private collaboration and the shared vision of building a smarter, more connected Pakistan.
