An Oregon nurse, 31-year-old Mackenzie “Kenzie” Michalski, was found dead during her vacation in Hungary after going missing from a nightclub in Budapest. Authorities announced on November 8 that Michalski, who had been visiting the European country, disappeared after leaving a nightclub in the early hours of her trip.
Disappearance Sparks Investigation
Michalski’s friends alerted Hungarian authorities when she missed her return flight, and her personal belongings were found abandoned in her Airbnb. Concerned, police began investigating her whereabouts, turning to security footage from local nightclubs. Surveillance images showed Michalski with a man at several venues on the night she vanished.
Suspect Detained: Irish Man Admits to Killing Michalski
On November 7, Budapest police detained an Irish citizen in connection with Michalski’s disappearance. The 37-year-old man, identified by the initials L.T.M., confessed to meeting Michalski at a nightclub, where they danced before leaving together for his apartment.
According to police, the suspect claimed that the two became intimate, but he accidentally killed Michalski during the encounter. Afterward, he reportedly cleaned his apartment, placed her body in a wardrobe, and went out to purchase a suitcase.

The Disturbing Aftermath
Authorities say the suspect used the suitcase to transport Michalski’s body, renting a car to drive about an hour and a half from Budapest to Lake Balaton. There, he allegedly disposed of her remains in a wooded area before returning to the city. The suspect was arrested outside his apartment in Budapest, where police took him into custody.
Investigation Underway
The suspect is now being questioned by the Homicide Division. Although he has confessed to the killing, he maintains that it was accidental. Authorities have not released the full name of the suspect at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

This tragic case has sent shockwaves through both the local community in Budapest and back in the U.S., where Michalski’s friends and family are left mourning the loss of a young woman who had been enjoying a vacation abroad.
