Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has emerged as India’s highest celebrity taxpayer for the 2023-24 financial year, paying a whopping Rs.92 crore in taxes. According to Fortune India, the list of biggest celebrity taxpayers, released in September, highlighted stars who paid significant amounts in advance taxes.

Bollywood and South Indian Stars Dominate the List

Shah Rukh Khan’s record-breaking tax payment was fueled by a blockbuster 2023, with hits like Pathaan (Rs. 1000 crore worldwide), Jawan (Rs .1150 crore), and Dunki ( Rs.400 crore). His earnings made him the highest-paid actor in India after nearly a decade.

Following him on the list was Tamil superstar Vijay, fondly called Thalapathy, who paid Rs.80 crore in taxes. Vijay’s success was driven by The Greatest of All Time, which grossed over Rs. 600 crore, with the actor reportedly earning Rs .200 crore for the film.

Other Top Taxpayers

The top five celebrity taxpayers included:

  • Salman Khan: Rs.75 crore
  • Amitabh Bachchan: Rs.71 crore
  • Virat Kohli: Rs.66 crore

Kareena Kapoor: Leading Female Taxpayer

Kareena Kapoor Khan ranked as the highest female celebrity taxpayer, paying Rs.20 crore, just outside the top 10.

Celebrity Earnings and Tax Contributions

The list underscores how India’s top entertainers and sports icons contribute heavily to the economy. While they may not match industrialists in earnings, their massive box office successes and brand endorsements ensure they remain among the highest tax-paying individuals.
