Prince Rahim al-Hussaini, the eldest son of the late Mawlana Shah Karim Aga Khan IV, has been named the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslim community. This announcement comes following the unsealing of his father’s will, made public on Wednesday, just one day after the passing of the spiritual leader and philanthropist, who died in Lisbon, Portugal at the age of 88.
Global Tributes to Aga Khan IV
The death of Aga Khan IV has led to an outpouring of tributes from world leaders, who have praised his extensive humanitarian work and pivotal role in fostering global development. Known for his philanthropic efforts and substantial wealth, the late Aga Khan IV made significant contributions to the welfare of the Ismaili community and strengthened its global influence. Under his leadership, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) financed numerous humanitarian initiatives and educational programs in some of the world’s most underprivileged regions.

Aga Khan IV’s business ventures, ranging from airlines to racehorses and media, expanded his legacy, cementing his position as one of the world’s wealthiest hereditary leaders. As the new Imam, Prince Rahim is expected to continue his father’s mission of philanthropy, with a focus on improving the lives of vulnerable communities. He has been deeply involved in the work of AKDN, serving on various boards and overseeing efforts to promote education, healthcare, and sustainable development.
