In a major diplomatic breakthrough, US President Donald Trump announced that Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire. Posting on social media platform X, Trump praised both nations for their “common sense and great intelligence” in resolving tensions, adding, “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio elaborated on the diplomatic efforts behind the scenes, revealing that over the past 48 hours, both he and Vice President Kamala Harris engaged in intensive discussions with top officials from both countries. These included Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, as well as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and NSA Asim Malik. Rubio confirmed that formal negotiations have now begun at a neutral venue.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the development in a separate statement, underscoring Islamabad’s consistent pursuit of peace in the region without compromising national sovereignty or territorial integrity.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also confirmed the ceasefire, stating that the Directors General of Military Operations from both sides had agreed to halt all military actions—across land, sea, and air—effective from 5 p.m. today. He noted that another round of talks between military leaders is scheduled for May 12. It should be noted that early this morning, Pakistan launched ‘Operation Banyan Marsus’ (Iron Wall) against India in response to Indian aggression and destroyed several targets in India, including Udhampur, Pathankot, Adampur airbases and several airfields, as well as the Brahmos storage site and the S-400 missile defense system.
Security sources had said that the airbases from which the people and mosques of Pakistan were targeted have been targeted.
According to security sources, Operation ‘Banyan Marsus’ was launched against the enemy at dawn and Fateh-1 missiles were fired at India.
Similarly, Pakistani missiles destroyed the Brahmos storage site in the Beas area, while the Pakistan Army also destroyed the airfield in Pathankot, and the training centers of the Indian Military Intelligence, which was involved in terrorism in Pakistan, were also destroyed in Rajouri and Nowshera.
