The Consulate General of Pakistan in New York hosted a grand reception to mark Pakistan Day, bringing together a large gathering of Pakistani-American community members, academicians, journalists, philanthropists, and community leaders.
Flag Hoisting Ceremony and Special Messages
The event commenced with a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai, accompanied by officers of the Consulate. Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read aloud, emphasizing the importance of the occasion. Attendees also viewed a short documentary highlighting the significance of March 23 and the Pakistan Resolution.
Consul General’s Keynote Address
In his keynote speech, Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai reflected on the historical significance of the Pakistan Resolution, stressing the need for unity, dedication, and ongoing contributions toward a progressive and prosperous Pakistan. He also praised the Pakistani-American community for playing a vital role in strengthening Pakistan-U.S. relations.
Recognition of Pakistani-Americans’ Contributions
The Consul General commended the American Pakistani Advocacy Group (APAG) and its President, Mr. Ali Rashid, for their efforts in securing two key resolutions in the New York State Assembly and Senate. These resolutions formally designate:
- March 23, 2025, as “Pakistan-American Heritage Day”
- March 19, 2025, as “Pakistani-American Business Celebration Day”
He noted that these recognitions mark a historic milestone, reflecting the growing acknowledgment of Pakistani-Americans’ cultural and economic contributions in New York State.
A Patriotic Musical Tribute
A soulful rendition of a national song by Pakistan’s legendary singer and Pride of Performance recipient, Mr. Amjad Hussain, added a special patriotic touch to the evening, resonating deeply with the audience.
