In a groundbreaking recognition of the Pakistani-American community’s impact, the New York State Assembly and Senate have unanimously passed two historic resolutions. These resolutions officially designate March 23, 2025, as “Pakistan-American Heritage Day” and March 19, 2025, as “Pakistani-American Business Celebration Day” across the state.

Acknowledging Cultural and Professional Achievements
The resolutions, introduced in the Assembly by Assemblymember Nader Sayegh and separately in the Senate by Senator John Liu, mark a significant milestone in honoring Pakistani-Americans’ diverse contributions. As the largest Pakistani community in the U.S., Pakistani-Americans in New York have excelled in fields such as education, medicine, science, technology, business, and industry.
Celebrating Economic Contributions of Pakistani-American Businesses
The resolution marking “Pakistani-American Business Celebration Day” highlights the entrepreneurial spirit of the Pakistani-American community. It recognizes their vital role in job creation, economic growth, and neighborhood revitalization, as well as their efforts in strengthening the state’s cultural and social fabric.
Diplomatic Recognition and Commitment to Stronger Business Ties
The momentous occasion was attended by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, and Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai, who were honored during the Assembly and Senate sessions in Albany. Ali Rashid, President of the American Pakistani Advocacy Group (APAG), was also acknowledged for his leadership in championing these resolutions.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Sheikh emphasized the significance of these resolutions in fostering stronger business and trade relations between Pakistan and New York. He expressed his commitment to enhancing economic ties and exploring new investment opportunities.
Gratitude for Legislative Support
“We deeply appreciate the unanimous support of the New York State Assembly and Senate in recognizing the contributions of the Pakistani-American community,” said Ambassador Sheikh. “I extend my sincere gratitude to Assemblymember Nader Sayegh and Senator John Liu for their instrumental roles in this achievement.”
A Milestone for Pakistani-American Advocacy
This initiative was spearheaded by the American Pakistani Advocacy Group (APAG), with support from the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York. The resolutions stand as a testament to the Pakistani-American community’s enduring contributions and their growing influence in New York State.
