Two blue-throated macaws, Lily and Margot, went missing from London Zoo on October 21, after failing to return to their enclosure during their daily flight. The zoo issued an appeal, urging the public to report any sightings but advised against approaching or feeding the parrots.
Sighted Near Family’s Garden in Cambridgeshire
Six days after their escape, a family in Buckden, Cambridgeshire, spotted the parrots in trees near their back garden. The birds then flew off again but were tracked to a nearby field and public path in Brampton.
Parrots Safely Returned to Zoo
When zookeepers arrived, Lily and Margot flew right into their arms and were rewarded with pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and pecans. Now back at London Zoo, the parrots are in good health and currently in quarantine at the zoo’s animal hospital. They will soon reunite with their parents, Popeye and Ollie.

Home to Rare Hyacinth Macaws
London Zoo is also home to four hyacinth macaws, the largest parrots globally, known for their vibrant blue feathers and distinctive yellow markings near the eyes. Native to Brazil, hyacinth macaws can produce calls audible from nearly a kilometer away.
