Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu has brought the Miss Universe crown back to India after 21 years, becoming the third Indian to win the title. She triumphed over South Africa’s Lalela Mswane and Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira at the 70th edition of the prestigious pageant held in Eilat, Israel.
Sandhu joins the ranks of previous Indian winners Sushmita Sen (1994) and Lara Dutta (2000). Both former Miss Universe titleholders expressed their joy, with Sushmita Sen posting a heartfelt message:
“Congratulations @harnaazsandhu_03. Thank you for bringing back the Miss Universe crown to India after 21 years.”
Lara Dutta also celebrated the win, tweeting: “We’ve waited 21 long years for this! You make us SO SO proud!!!”

In her winning answer during the top three rounds, she emphasized self-belief:
“The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves… Stop comparing yourselves with others and speak for yourself because you are the leader of your life.”
Harnaaz is no stranger to the limelight. She has previously won titles such as Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018 and Femina Miss India Punjab 2019. She also has acting credits in Punjabi films like Yaara Diyan Poo Baran and Bai Ji Kuttange.
Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Public Administration, Harnaaz is also a social media star with a significant following on Instagram, where her bio reads, “Shine like the whole Universe is yours.”
