Vice President Kamala Harris is returning to Houston for a campaign rally on Friday, coinciding with the conclusion of the first week of in-person early voting.
Rally Details
Although the exact location of the rally has not been disclosed, it is scheduled to take place between 3 and 8 p.m.
Focus on Abortion Rights
In a statement promoting the event, Harris’s campaign emphasized the significance of Texas as a focal point for Donald Trump’s “extreme abortion bans.” Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Texas implemented a ban on abortions without exceptions for rape or incest. Harris is expected to be accompanied by women who have been directly affected by these state restrictions.

Harris’s Texas Visit
This will mark Harris’s first trip to Texas since July, when she spent a significant portion of her early campaign in Houston attending speeches and fundraising events. This visit is notable, as presidential candidates typically focus on battleground states close to Election Day.
Importance of Harris County
To increase their chances of flipping Texas or tightening their hold on the state, Democrats will need strong voter turnout in Harris County, where the rally will take place. This county, the most populous in Texas, has shown a trend toward blue in recent presidential elections. In 2020, Joe Biden secured 56% of the vote in Harris County, marking the highest percentage for a Democratic candidate since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
Trump’s Recent Campaign Activities
Former President Trump recently held fundraising events in Houston and Midland but has not participated in any other in-person campaign activities in Texas since his appearance at the National Rifle Association Convention in Dallas last May.
