The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indefinitely suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to escalating India-Pakistan tensions and growing security threats. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the BCCI has officially confirmed the decision.
The announcement came after a match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, scheduled to be held in Dharamshala yesterday, was canceled due to security concerns. Dharamshala is located just 10 kilometers from Pathankot, where airstrike alerts had been issued. Following this, the BCCI decided to suspend the IPL.

Sources within the BCCI told the newspaper, “We have decided to suspend the IPL indefinitely. Player safety is one of our top priorities, and at this time, national interest is paramount, which is why we’ve chosen to halt the tournament.”
It is worth noting that the match scheduled for Thursday night in Dharamshala was initially interrupted due to rain, and the stadium’s floodlights were turned off. Initially, the blackout was assumed to be a technical glitch, but it was later revealed that players and officials had been warned of potential airstrike threats, leading to a rapid escalation in the situation.
One player told The Indian Express that both teams were frightened, especially the foreign players, who were particularly concerned for their safety.

Australian media also reported on the situation, highlighting that their players had expressed serious concern over the security threats, with some even expressing a desire to return home immediately.
According to sources, a wave of anxiety has spread among international players, and many are in continuous contact with their respective governments and agents.
