As an arctic cold front heads toward Texas this weekend, multiple school districts across the Houston area have announced cancellations of weekend events and extracurricular activities due to safety concerns.

Weather forecasts indicate a chance of freezing rain beginning Friday night, which could create hazardous travel conditions if ice forms on roads and highways. In response, districts throughout the region are closely monitoring the situation, with several already confirming cancellations or postponements for Saturday and Sunday activities.

Spring Branch ISD stated that all athletic events, fine arts programs and other extracurricular activities scheduled for the weekend have been canceled, and district facilities will remain closed. Some districts, including Conroe and Fort Bend ISDs, shared on social media that they currently plan to resume regular instructional days starting Monday after the storm. However, officials emphasized that weather conditions will continue to be monitored and schedules may change if necessary.

School districts across the Houston area are urging families to stay informed by checking official district websites, social media pages, and parent communication platforms for the latest weather-related updates.
