In a groundbreaking turn, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani has surged ahead with a commanding 10-point lead over Andrew Cuomo in New York City’s mayoral general election. According to the latest poll conducted by Slingshot Strategies, Mamdani commands 35% support among registered voters, while Cuomo trails at 25%. Surprisingly, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa follows closely behind Cuomo with 14%, leaving incumbent Mayor Eric Adams in fourth place at a mere 11%.
The poll, encompassing 1,036 registered NYC voters from July 2-6, highlights Mamdani’s broad appeal across various demographics, contrasting sharply with Adams’ struggling campaign. Adams faces a significant challenge with a net approval rating plummeting to -34, reflecting 28% favorable and 62% unfavorable views.

Mamdani’s momentum underscores a shift in voter sentiment, especially among Democrats in a city where they outnumber Republicans 6-to-1. His victory in the Democratic primary, secured with 56% of the vote in the final round of ranked-choice voting, solidifies his position as a frontrunner for the November 4th election.
While Adams and Cuomo continue their public exchanges, calling on each other to withdraw to unify opposition against Mamdani, the Democratic nominee remains steadfast in consolidating party support and advocating for progressive change in NYC.
Stay tuned as Mamdani’s campaign aims to make history once again this November.
