In a gesture of friendship and cultural recognition, New York City Mayor Eric Adams will hoist Pakistan’s green crescent-and-star flag at Bowling Green Park, one of New York’s most historic landmarks, to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day. The dignified ceremony will bring together prominent Pakistani diplomats, community leaders, and members of the Pakistani-American community.

Bowling Green Park holds a special place in American history as New York City’s first public park. Located in Lower Manhattan, it is remembered as the site where, on November 25, 1783—known as Evacuation Day—the American army raised the U.S. flag for the first time after independence, marking the departure of British forces and the establishment of complete American control. The park also witnessed a defining Revolutionary moment in 1776, when the statue of King George III was toppled by the public in an act of defiance against British rule. Today, Bowling Green remains a living symbol of America’s struggle for freedom and national pride.

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, Mayor Adams will also host Pakistani American Heritage Day on August 28 at his official residence, Gracie Mansion, where a special event will be held to honor the contributions of Pakistani Americans and celebrate Pakistan’s cultural heritage.

This year’s events promise to highlight the shared values of independence, unity, and cultural pride between the people of Pakistan and the United States.
