Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, became visibly emotional during a hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Monday, asserting that true justice “doesn’t exist” in Pakistan.
During the court appearance, where her husband Imran Khan’s bail application was being heard, Bushra Bibi expressed profound frustration with what she described as “systematic unfairness” over the past nine months.
“There is no justice. I didn’t come here seeking justice,” she said, fighting back tears. She questioned the impartiality of the judicial system, adding, “Is the person inside [Imran Khan] not a human? Do the judges not see this?” She declared that this would be her last appearance in court, voicing her disillusionment with the legal system.
Criticism of Legal Team and Readiness for Imprisonment
Bushra Bibi also openly criticized her legal team, accusing them of mismanaging time and stated her willingness to face imprisonment herself. She lamented the injustices she and her husband had experienced, claiming they were unfairly targeted across the country.
Court Reserves Verdict on Imran and Bushra’s Bail Applications
A district and sessions court reserved its decision on the bail applications of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in seven cases on Monday. Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Afzal Magoo presided over the hearing, where lawyers representing both Khan and Bibi were present.

Arguments Surrounding the Toshakhana Case
In court, Bushra Bibi appeared alongside her lawyer, Salman Safdar, who urged the judge to ensure Khan’s appearance through a video link. During discussions on the Toshakhana case—which involves allegations of fraudulent documentation—Safdar revealed that five individuals, including Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Farah, and Shahzad Akbar, were implicated. Only two, however, still have pending bail applications.
The prosecution alleged that the accused submitted fake receipts. In response, the judge pressed the prosecutor to provide details of the investigation conducted over the last year and a half, specifically asking for evidence of where these alleged fake receipts were used. The prosecutor noted that the receipts had been submitted to the Election Commission, which stated they were presented to the Toshakhana.
Frustrated by the proceedings, the judge questioned the thoroughness of the investigation, saying, “If I follow the law, who are you to file the case? Provide evidence of where the fake receipts were submitted.”
Lawyer’s Concerns Over Video Link and Khan’s Appearance
Safdar argued against Khan’s appearance via video link due to technical challenges, suggesting the court proceed with Bushra Bibi’s case as she was already present. The judge warned the jail superintendent that failure to present Khan in court could result in consequences.
After hearing arguments from both legal teams and statements from the investigative officer, the court reserved its decision on the bail applications for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
Cases Filed in 2023 at Multiple Police Stations
Notably, the cases against both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were registered in 2023 at various police stations, including Kohsar, Ramna, Tarnol, Karachi Company, and Secretariat.
