An American woman, Onija Andrew Robinson, staged a sit-in protest at Karachi Airport and later outside a young man’s apartment after he allegedly cheated on her and refused to marry her. The 33-year-old woman had traveled to Pakistan to be with 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, a resident of Garden West, Karachi.
Sit-In at Boy’s Residence Sparks Public Attention
After arriving in Karachi, Robinson went directly from the airport to Memon’s apartment and refused to leave, staging a protest in the building’s parking lot. The apartment’s management requested her to vacate the premises, but she declined. Her presence quickly drew a crowd of onlookers, adding to the commotion.
Meanwhile, Memon and his family locked their home and left, avoiding any interaction with her. The woman, however, continued to demand a meeting with him and also insisted on being paid in U.S. dollars before returning to the United States.
US Consulate Attempts Repatriation
A U.S. Consulate delegation arrived at Karachi Airport in an attempt to persuade Robinson to return home. However, she refused repatriation, and officials stated that they could not forcibly send her back without her consent.
Airport Drama Causes Flight Delay
Earlier in the day, authorities attempted to send her back to the U.S. on Qatar Airways Flight QR 611, scheduled for 10 a.m. However, Robinson caused a disturbance at the airport, leading to her removal from the flight. As a result, the flight experienced a 36-minute delay, according to airport officials.
Robinson’s refusal to leave has created a bizarre diplomatic and social situation, leaving authorities uncertain about how to proceed.
