Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual, has made a remarkable impact on United States President-elect Donald Trump’s 2024 re-election bid. Recent filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) reveal that Musk contributed over $259 million to support Trump’s campaign, solidifying his role as one of the largest financial backers in US presidential campaign history.
Backing Through America PAC
A significant portion of Musk’s support, totaling $239 million, was directed to America PAC, a super PAC he founded to help mobilize voters for Trump. This investment underscores Musk’s growing influence within the Republican Party.
Additional $20 Million to RBG PAC
In late October, Musk further contributed $20 million to RBG PAC, an organization aimed at reassuring voters that Trump, 78, would not pass a national abortion ban into law. The PAC’s name honors the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a staunch advocate for abortion rights.
Musk’s Role in Trump’s Transition Team
In addition to his financial contributions, Musk has become a key advisor in Trump’s transition team. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO was selected alongside former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a task force focused on reducing government spending and cutting regulations.
Pushing for Government Overhaul
Musk and Ramaswamy met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to garner support for Trump’s proposed sweeping spending cuts. Their plan includes firing thousands of federal employees, reducing regulations, and eliminating outdated programs, such as veterans’ healthcare.
Musk’s Continued Influence in Trump’s Inner Circle
Musk’s close relationship with Trump has also seen him frequent the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, reinforcing his role as a trusted confidante during the transition period.
