Alex Consani, Teen Vogue cover star and trailblazing model, has become the first openly trans woman to receive the prestigious Model of the Year award at the 2024 British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards. The ceremony, held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, celebrated Consani’s groundbreaking contributions to the fashion industry and her role as a symbol of progress and representation.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Consani honored those who paved the way for her success, particularly Black trans women such as Dominique Jackson, Connie Fleming, and Aaron Rose Phillips. “I’m the first trans woman to win this award,” Consani declared, expressing gratitude to her parents for their unwavering support. She also called on parents of trans children to embrace their journeys, adding, “Change is more than possible; it’s needed.”

A Bold Fashion Statement
For the milestone occasion, Consani stunned in a corseted dress adorned with a Union Jack drape, designed by Dilara Findikoglu. The look was a product of a personal collaboration and symbolized her pride and individuality.
Pioneering Representation in Fashion
Consani’s win underscores her role as a trailblazer in an industry still grappling with diversity. Earlier this year, she became one of the first two trans women to walk the red carpet at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, breaking barriers and setting new standards for inclusion in fashion.
Championing Broader Diversity
At the Teen Vogue Summit in November, Consani spoke candidly about the challenges of navigating an industry that often lacks authentic representation. She shared how these obstacles drive her to advocate for greater inclusivity, not only for trans individuals but for all marginalized communities.
“Representation isn’t just about visibility—it’s about creating real opportunities for everyone,” Consani emphasized. Her journey continues to inspire change and redefine the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of fashion.
