The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, has pledged to simplify the visa process for Indian fans eager to attend the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. As both PCB Chairman and Federal Interior Minister, Naqvi outlined plans to expedite visa procedures and allocate a dedicated ticket quota for Indian supporters. “We’ll maintain a special ticket quota for Indian fans and aim for swift visa issuance,” Naqvi shared, underscoring his optimism for a substantial turnout from India. While the official schedule is yet to be finalized, matches are planned for key venues in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, with the tournament set to run from February 19 to March 9.

Uncertainty Over Indian Team’s Participation
Despite these arrangements, the participation of the Indian cricket team remains in limbo, awaiting a decision from the Indian government. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeks an official stance on allowing its players to travel to Pakistan—a decision crucial given that no Indian team has visited Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Naqvi expressed confidence, however, that India will participate, stating, “The Indian team should come. I don’t foresee any cancellations, and we’re prepared to host all teams in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.” He also affirmed the PCB’s commitment to ensuring a memorable India-Pakistan showdown, likely to take place in Lahore.

ECB Stresses India’s Role in the Tournament’s Success
Adding to the conversation, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officials, including Chairman Richard Thompson, weighed in on the impact of India’s potential absence. The ECB emphasized that India’s involvement is vital for the tournament’s success, reportedly stating, “Hosting the Champions Trophy without India is not an option.” In light of this, the ICC is reportedly exploring contingency plans should the BCCI be unable to secure government clearance for the tour.
