Houston and parts of Southeast Texas are facing more rain and thunderstorms, with wet weather expected to continue through the weekend.

Additional showers and storms are expected this afternoon, with generally less than one inch of additional rainfall. However, some storms could produce much heavier rain in a short period.

Rain and storm activity will focus mainly *along and south of I-10, with around *2 to 4 inches of total rainfall possible through Monday. Isolated areas could receive higher amounts.

A Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening, meaning conditions are favorable for flooding. Heavy downpours can quickly overwhelm drainage systems, particularly in low-lying areas and neighborhoods that receive repeated rainfall.

What Houston families should know

The main concern is not just today’s rain, but the possibility of repeated heavy rainfall over the next several days.

Families should:

  • Check local weather and emergency alerts before traveling.
  • Avoid unnecessary driving during periods of heavy rain.
  • Never drive through standing or moving floodwater.
  • Move vehicles away from known flood-prone areas when heavy rain is approaching.
  • Keep phones charged in case of power disruptions.
  • Secure outdoor furniture and other loose objects before thunderstorms.
  • Check for changes to weekend sports, school or community activities.

For Pakistani families in Houston

For Pakistani-American families, the weather could affect mosque visits, weekend gatherings, weddings, sports activities and longer drives across the Houston area.

Conditions can vary significantly from one neighborhood to another. A location that appears dry may be only a short distance from an area experiencing intense rainfall.

The safest approach is to check the latest local alerts before leaving home and allow extra travel time during storms.

Survival Tip:** Never drive through floodwater just because another vehicle has made it across. Water can hide road damage, debris or dangerous conditions underneath.
