The Consulate General of Pakistan in Chicago held a seminar to observe Youm-e-Istehsal, marking six years since India’s illegal and unilateral actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The seminar was attended by a large number of community leaders, Kashmiri activists, journalists, academics, and members of civil society. Distinguished speakers included Consul General Tariq Karim, Dr. Wasiullah Khan (Chancellor, East-West University Chicago), Dr. Teepu Siddique (President, Iqbal Society), Javed Rathore (Chairman, Kashmir Solidarity Council), and Muhammad Salim (Kashmiri activist).
In his remarks, Consul General Tariq Karim highlighted India’s attempts to change the demographic and political landscape of IIOJK, which contravene international law and UN Security Council resolutions. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and called on the international community to fulfill its responsibility to resolve the dispute and alleviate the suffering of the people of Kashmir.

The speakers expressed grave concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in IIOJK and emphasized the urgent need for global action to ensure a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.

The participants observed a one-minute silence in solidarity with the people of IIOJK. Earlier, the Consulate hosted a three-day photographic exhibition showcasing the history of the Kashmir dispute and the human rights violations in the region.
