Ohio will host concurrent presentations of Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior, with exhibitions at both the Cincinnati Art Museum (CAM) and the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) starting February 14, 2025. Showcasing nearly 100 works spanning 35 years, the exhibition offers a comprehensive view of Sikander’s evolving artistic practice.

Previously premiered as a Collateral Event at the 60th International Art Exhibition—La Biennale di Venezia, Collective Behavior has received international acclaim for its exploration of South Asian art within a contemporary framework.
The Cincinnati Art Museum’s exhibition provides a career-spanning exploration of Sikander’s work, focusing on her recurring themes and symbolic language rather than a chronological timeline. It examines her artistic identity as an American, Pakistani, Muslim, feminist, and global citizen engaging with disrupted historical narratives.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Museum of Art showcases Collective Behavior alongside historic South Asian artworks from its renowned collection. This presentation highlights Sikander’s deep engagement with traditional South Asian aesthetics while positioning contemporary art within the broader scope of global history.
