Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is out of danger following stab injuries sustained during a scuffle with an intruder at his Mumbai residence, police confirmed on Thursday. The 54-year-old star, son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, was undergoing surgery after the attack.
Senior police officer Gedam Dixit told Reuters, “He is receiving treatment and is out of danger.”
Surgery Underway, Hospital Officials Assess Damage
Hospital official Niraj Uttamani, quoted by ANI, stated that Khan was undergoing surgery, and the full extent of his injuries would be clear once the procedure was complete. A small foreign object was reportedly detected near his spine. Khan was admitted to the hospital at approximately 3:30 a.m.

Burglary Attempt at Khan’s Residence
The attack took place at Khan’s Bandra apartment, where he lives with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children. A female employee at their home was also injured and is receiving medical treatment.
Kareena’s representatives confirmed the actor’s surgery, assuring that “the rest of the family is safe.” Police have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the perpetrator.
Security Concerns Raised in Mumbai’s Film Hub
Following the attack, industry figures and political leaders called for increased security in Mumbai, especially in Bandra, home to many celebrities.
Opposition politician Clyde Crasto of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) raised concerns on X, stating, “If high-profile individuals with security can be attacked in their homes, what about ordinary citizens?”
Filmmaker Pooja Bhatt echoed similar concerns, saying, “The city, especially the ‘queen of the suburbs,’ has never felt so unsafe before.”
Mumbai Police Under Pressure as Crime Concerns Rise
Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, recently saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies win state elections in November 2024. The attack on Khan has intensified scrutiny on law enforcement, with calls for better security measures in the financial and entertainment hub of India.
