Law enforcement officials believe fireworks, gas tanks, and camping fuel were connected to a detonation system controlled by the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning. The FBI is investigating the incident as a potential terrorist act but has emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Incident Overview: Explosion Leaves One Dead, Seven Injured
The explosion occurred shortly after 8:40 a.m. when fire crews responded to a vehicle fire outside the hotel. A 2024 Tesla Cybertruck was found engulfed in flames, with one deceased individual inside the vehicle. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the person in the truck, pending further investigation. Seven people sustained injuries but are reportedly in stable condition.

Surveillance Footage and Vehicle Details
Surveillance footage shows the Cybertruck driving up and down Las Vegas Boulevard before stopping in front of the Trump Hotel and exploding moments later. The vehicle, rented in Colorado through the car rental service Turo, arrived in Las Vegas approximately an hour before the incident.

Authorities say the investigation into the explosion is ongoing.

Investigation and Evidence
Authorities revealed the truck bed contained charred gasoline canisters and firework mortars. Police are coordinating with Turo and other agencies to determine if there is a link to a similar attack in New Orleans involving a Turo-rented vehicle. However, officials currently see no connection between the two incidents.

Elon Musk and Tesla Provide Assistance
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that Tesla has provided video footage from its charging stations to aid investigators. Musk confirmed the explosion was caused by large fireworks or a bomb in the truck bed and praised the Cybertruck’s design for minimizing damage by directing the blast upwards.

Response from Authorities and Witness Accounts
Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill noted that the Cybertruck’s design helped limit damage to the hotel, as the glass front doors remained intact. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo and the Trump Organization expressed their gratitude to first responders.

Witness Galit Ventura Rozen, staying at a nearby hotel, described seeing a cloud of smoke and emergency vehicles rushing to the scene. Hotel guests were later evacuated as a precaution.

Ongoing Investigation
The investigation remains active as law enforcement assesses potential connections to other incidents and works to rule out secondary threats. “There are still many unanswered questions,” Sheriff McMahill said.
