Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the elimination of the six-month backlog for passports in Pakistan, lauding the efforts of Passport and NADRA offices. He emphasized that both departments have significantly improved their services, ensuring timely issuance of passports and ID cards.

Modernizing Services for Citizens
Speaking at the inauguration of a new Passport Office in Islamabad, Naqvi stated, “NADRA and Passport Offices have improved so much that citizens can now experience efficient, respectful service. Work gets done promptly, and documents are issued without delays.”
Proposal for Establishing Passport Authority
Naqvi expressed his intention to transform the current system by establishing a dedicated Passport Authority.
- Rationale for Change: He noted that reliance on multiple departments creates inefficiencies, such as delayed salaries and bureaucratic hurdles.
- Expected Benefits: Streamlined operations, quicker decisions, and enhanced employee satisfaction.
“We are committed to making this transformation happen,” he stated, emphasizing its necessity for long-term progress.
Expansion of Passport Services
Naqvi shared plans to launch 24-hour passport counters in 14 to 16 cities within a week. These counters will be integrated into 24-hour NADRA centers, making it more convenient for citizens to access services anytime.
- Islamabad: The new Passport Office will immediately offer 24-hour service.
- Future Plans: Model offices are being planned for major cities, including Lahore and Karachi. Discussions are underway to finalize a Karachi location.
Crackdown on Passport-Related Mafias
The Interior Minister highlighted the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) efforts to crack down on mafias operating outside passport offices.
- Objective: To eliminate exploitation and ensure a safe, transparent process for citizens.
- Commitment: Naqvi assured the public that these actions would continue until such mafias are eradicated.
With these advancements, Pakistan’s passport and ID services are set to enter a new era of efficiency and transparency, reflecting the government’s commitment to serving its citizens effectively.
