Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid has officially been charged in an ongoing field general court-martial (FGCM). The charges stem from allegations of misconduct during and after his military service.

Charges Filed Under Pakistan Army Act
The FGCM proceedings, initiated on August 12 under the Pakistan Army Act, accuse Lt Gen (retd) Hamid of:

  • Engaging in political activities,
  • Violating the Official Secrets Act in ways harmful to state security,
  • Misusing authority and government resources,
  • Causing wrongful financial loss to individuals.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), these allegations highlight serious breaches of military discipline.

Role in Political Unrest
The ISPR further revealed that Hamid was implicated in actions that incited unrest, including incidents related to the May 9, 2023, protests. Investigations are ongoing into his alleged collaboration with political entities to destabilize the country. The military emphasized that Hamid is being afforded all legal rights under the law.

Arrest and Further Allegations
Hamid was taken into military custody in August 2024 on charges of abuse of power and violating the Army Act. His arrest followed a Supreme Court-mandated inquiry into complaints related to the Top City housing project.

The investigation uncovered violations of the Army Act post-retirement, with Hamid accused of land grabbing and theft during a raid on the property of a private housing society. The case was initiated after a petition by the housing society’s CEO.

Three other retired military officers were also detained in connection with the same case.
