The United States Consulate in Karachi has extended an invitation to Pakistani companies to join the prestigious SelectUSA Summit 2024, an event designed to promote business investment by connecting international investors, companies, economic development organizations (EDOs), and industry experts.

A Platform for Global Business Expansion

The SelectUSA Investment Summit, scheduled from May 11-14, 2024, in National Harbor, Maryland, is expected to host over 5,000 attendees. This gathering includes representatives from 90 international markets, more than 2,500 business investors, and EDOs from across the United States. Pakistani participants will gain valuable insights and guidance on expanding into the U.S. market, along with opportunities to network with industry experts and investors.

Speaking at the Fifth Pakistan-America Business Forum Summit in Islamabad, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker emphasized the significance of the SelectUSA program.
“SelectUSA offers a vital opportunity for companies aiming to scale up their operations and enter the U.S. market. I encourage Pakistani businesses to seize this opportunity and join the next summit,” she stated.

The U.S. remains Pakistan’s largest export market, accounting for 16% of its annual exports. Over 80 U.S. firms operate in Pakistan, employing 120,000 Pakistanis directly and supporting over a million others indirectly. Since 2021, USAID-backed initiatives have injected $13 million (Rs. 3.6 billion) in foreign direct investment and boosted U.S.-Pakistan bilateral trade by $41 million (Rs. 11.42 billion).

Opportunities for Pakistani Companies

Baker highlighted Pakistan’s untapped potential as a key partner for the United States. “Pakistan is one of the world’s most populous countries with a vibrant, young population. Its economic growth in sectors like technology, trade, climate resilience, and security can greatly benefit both nations, the region, and the world,” she noted.

Success Stories: Pakistan Investment Promotion Activity

Baker also spotlighted the USAID’s Pakistan Investment Promotion Activity launched in 2021. This initiative featured investment roadshows in cities such as Dubai, Riyadh, New York, San Francisco, and Washington. It showcased 48 Pakistani companies, many of which now collaborate directly with international investors, including members of the Pakistani diaspora.

“These efforts have led to $13 million in foreign direct investment, $41 million in bilateral trade growth, and $14.5 million in private sector investment,” Baker said.

The SelectUSA Summit provides Pakistani companies with a unique chance to unlock new opportunities, foster business growth, and strengthen economic ties with the United States. With its vibrant workforce and growing industries, Pakistan is poised to make significant contributions to the U.S. economy and beyond.
