Squash icons Nicol David and Jansher Khan were inducted into the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Hall of Fame at a special ceremony held at the Hong Kong Football Club, just before the Hong Kong Squash Open. Their induction marks a significant moment in the sport’s history as they join an elite group of athletes.

Nicol David: A Trailblazer in Women’s Squash

Nicol David, widely regarded as one of the greatest female squash players of all time, was recognized for her incredible career achievements. These include a record eight World Championship titles and an extraordinary 108-month reign as World No. 1. David also boasts five British Open titles and two Commonwealth Games gold medals.

After retiring from competitive squash, David has focused on community-driven initiatives through the Nicol David Organisation, which aims to promote squash development and educational programs. In 2021, she was inducted into the Laureus World Sports Academy.

David expressed her gratitude at the ceremony, saying, “It’s such an honor to be recognized in this way. I feel amazing and truly thankful to the PSA.”

Jansher Khan: The King of Squash in Pakistan

Jansher Khan, a central figure in Pakistan’s squash dominance during the 1980s and 1990s, was also honored for his contributions to the sport. Khan won eight World Championships and six British Open titles and held the World No. 1 ranking for a record 97 months. He ended his career with 99 professional titles, the most in men’s squash history.

Reflecting on his induction, Khan expressed his joy, especially in Hong Kong, where he had previously won eight Hong Kong Open titles.

Tributes from Current Stars

Both players received heartfelt tributes from today’s top squash stars. World No. 1 Nour El Sherbini praised Nicol David’s enduring legacy, while Ali Farag hailed Jansher Khan as “the greatest squash player of all time.”

PSA Hall of Fame: Celebrating Squash’s Greatest

PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough commended the inductees, stating, “Nicol and Jansher’s names will forever be linked with squash. Their records and influence on the game are unmatched.”

This induction also comes as the PSA celebrates its 50th anniversary, reinforcing the importance of honoring the pioneers who have shaped squash into the global sport it is today. The Hall of Fame now stands as a tribute to these transformative figures in the sport’s history.
