Kate Winslet recently shared a heartwarming story about a surprise reunion with a familiar face from her iconic Titanic days. The Oscar-winning actress, who was on The Graham Norton Show to promote her latest film Lee, recounted a “wonderful” encounter that took her back to the set of the legendary 1997 blockbuster.
A Surprising Reunion at the Lee Score Recording
While discussing her role as a producer and star in Lee, Winslet revealed a delightful coincidence that occurred during the film’s post-production. The actress, who has executive produced several of her past projects, took on a more hands-on role with Lee, involving herself in every aspect from the ground up—right through to the film’s score recording in London.
While watching the 120-piece orchestra perform, Winslet noticed a violinist in the crowd whose face looked strangely familiar. “I’m looking at this violinist and I thought, ‘I know that face!’” she told Norton.
As the day went on, the mystery deepened. Other musicians in the orchestra pointed to the violinist while silently mouthing, “It’s him!” This moment of recognition nagged at Winslet, leading her to wonder, “Am I related to this person? Who is this person?”
The Mystery Solved: A Titanic Connection
The mystery was finally solved when Winslet ventured over to the orchestra at the end of the recording session. She was overjoyed to discover that the violinist was none other than a member of the orchestra who had famously played on the ill-fated Titanic during its dramatic sinking in James Cameron’s iconic film.
“It was that guy!” Winslet exclaimed, recalling the moment with great affection. “It was just wonderful” to reconnect with him after all these years.

A Film Full of Familiar Faces
Winslet went on to share that Lee was full of similar moments, with several people she had worked with in the past, or known throughout her career, showing up to support her. “We had so many moments like that in the film, where people I’ve either worked with before or really known for a long time—people I’ve grown up with in the industry—just showed up for me, and it was incredible,” she added.
Lee: A New Chapter in Winslet’s Career
Lee, which hit theaters in late September, tells the story of Lee Miller, a fashion model turned war photographer during World War II, and has received praise for Winslet’s compelling performance. The film is now available to rent or purchase on Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime.
Winslet’s Titanic reunion, coupled with her deep involvement in the making of Lee, highlights her dedication and long-standing connections in the industry—a truly full-circle moment for the star.
