The Algerian Olympic Committee has strongly condemned a controversial medical report targeting gold medalist Imane Khelif, which alleges she has male chromosomes and lacks a uterus. This unverified report, which has circulated widely on social media, has reignited controversy surrounding the athlete since the Olympic Games in Paris earlier this year.

Committee’s Response

In a statement reported by the German media group DW, the Algerian Olympic Committee labeled the claims as “baseless attacks.” They emphasized that the accusations are intended to damage Khelif’s reputation, noting her achievements in bringing honor to Algeria on the international stage.

Allegations and Denials

The disputed document, allegedly authored by French endocrinologist Jacques Young, claims that Khelif has a condition known as Difference of Sexual Development. However, Young has denied any association with the report, accusing others of misusing his name to promote an anti-transgender agenda. The hospital where he practices has also refused to authenticate the document, citing patient confidentiality.

International Olympic Committee’s Position

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has distanced itself from the claims, describing the report as “unverified.” Khelif is reportedly considering legal action in response to the accusations.

Previous Controversies

This is not the first instance of Khelif facing scrutiny. Following her gold medal victory in the women’s 66 kg boxing event, she was wrongly accused of failing gender verification tests conducted by the International Boxing Association (IBA). The IBA’s assertion that she had male chromosomes was dismissed by the IOC as “illegitimate.”

Online Amplification of Claims

The latest allegations gained traction in late October, particularly through online platforms like Reduxx, a magazine recognized for its “pro-woman” perspective. The report suggested that Khelif underwent genetic testing, which supposedly indicated a Difference of Sexual Development condition, although a screenshot clarified that medical professionals still classified her as female.

Legal Action and Support

While Khelif has not publicly commented, her management team has confirmed that she is pursuing legal action. The Algerian Olympic Committee reiterated its unwavering support for Khelif and called for an end to harmful gender-based attacks in sports.
