Google is facing an astronomical fine of over two undecillion rubles—equivalent to two followed by 36 zeros—after the removal of state-run and pro-government accounts from YouTube. To put this in perspective, an undecillion represents a trillion times a trillion times a trillion.
Fine Surpasses Global GDP This staggering penalty far exceeds the estimated global GDP of $110 trillion, according to the International Monetary Fund. With a market valuation of $2.16 trillion, Google is unlikely to pay such an outlandish amount anytime soon.
Escalating Costs Due to Non-Payment The fine continues to increase due to Google’s failure to comply with a court ruling, and if not paid within nine months, it will start doubling every day, as reported by state news agency Tass. The increasing amount stems from Google’s refusal to restore YouTube accounts for 17 Russian TV channels, according to RBC News.

Legal Proceedings and Market Access A judge involved in the case remarked on October 28 about “a case in which there are many, many zeros.” The judge indicated that Google could only regain access to the Russian market by complying with the court’s decision. This legal battle began privately in 2020 when accounts for Tsargrad TV and RIA FAN were blocked due to U.S. sanctions.
Impact of the Ukraine Conflict The situation intensified following the outbreak of the Ukraine war when YouTube blocked accounts for Russian outlets like Sputnik and RT, prompting a stronger response from Russian authorities.
