Republican voters in Arizona are expressing skepticism over Maricopa County’s recent announcement that vote tabulation could take 10 to 13 days. This extended timeline, according to election officials, is due to longer ballots and high voter turnout.
Officials Cite Security and Accuracy as Priorities
Maricopa County’s Deputy Elections Director, Jennifer Liewer, explained that the time frame is necessary to ensure the process is accurate and secure. “We expect it will take between 10 and 13 days to complete the tabulation, but we ask for the community’s patience,” Liewer stated, emphasizing that the priority is safeguarding both accuracy and security.

GOP Voters Compare Maricopa to Larger States
Despite these assurances, some Republicans remain unconvinced. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), many have raised questions, comparing Maricopa County’s timeline to that of larger states like Texas, where results are expected on election night. One user commented, “Texas, with 30 million people, can announce results on election night, but Maricopa County with 2.1 million votes needs 10 to 13 days. That should terrify you.” Another questioned the efficiency of the process, writing, “What’s going on here?”

Lingering Concerns from 2022 Midterms
The concerns stem from issues during the 2022 midterm elections in Maricopa County, where older printers and longer ballots led to scanning errors. An independent investigation blamed outdated printers and heavier paper for the problem. Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who lost in 2022, cited these Election Day issues as a major factor in her defeat, further intensifying scrutiny of the upcoming 2024 election process.
