The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned, in the ongoing Toshakhana case. The decision was made by Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb during a hearing on Wednesday, with Bushra Bibi required to submit a bond worth Rs1 million.
This ruling offers temporary relief to Bushra Bibi, who faces accusations of misusing state gifts. During the proceedings, Justice Aurangzeb questioned the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) officer on whether further investigation of Bushra Bibi was necessary. The officer responded that no additional inquiries were needed, leading the court to approve her bail.

The court also referenced gift-handling practices in other countries, mentioning that the British Prime Minister had similarly taken gifts home, in line with regulations. The judge pointed out that nations like Azerbaijan display state gifts in museums, noting that the only photograph of a Pakistani leader in such a setting is that of Benazir Bhutto.
The Toshakhana case involves allegations of corruption against both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, particularly regarding the sale of gifts received from foreign dignitaries.
Indictment of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Delayed
In a related development, the indictment proceedings against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, initially scheduled for the same day, were postponed due to security concerns. The hearing, originally set to take place at Adiala Jail, was moved to Islamabad’s Judicial Complex. However, ongoing security issues led to the rescheduling of the indictment to October 26.
