Days after Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 election, Donald Trump’s campaign released Swift-inspired merchandise, sparking outrage and confusion among Swifties.
Swift Endorses Kamala Harris
During the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Taylor Swift announced her support for the vice president, signaling her backing for Harris in the upcoming election. The endorsement came amid growing political tensions and celebrity involvement in the election.
Trump Campaign’s Swift-Inspired Merch Drop
In an apparent attempt to capitalize on Swift’s popularity and possibly win over her fanbase, the Trump campaign unveiled Taylor Swift-inspired merchandise two days after the endorsement. The T-shirts, launched on September 12, 2024, mimicked the designs Swift used for her Eras Tour, featuring ten different images of Trump, including his mug shot, instead of album covers.
The shirts carried the tagline “Look What You Made Me Do,” a reference to Swift’s hit song from her 2017 album Reputation. The design, which originally read “Taylor Swift The Eras Tour,” was altered to read “Donald J. Trump Make America Great Again” in the same font, as reported by Parade.

Trump’s Reaction to Swift’s Endorsement
Following Swift’s endorsement of Harris, Trump took to Truth Social to express his disapproval, writing, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.” JD Vance, a Trump ally, also criticized Swift, saying that most Americans would not be influenced by a celebrity who, in his view, was disconnected from the struggles of ordinary people.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has associated himself with the “Dark MAGA” movement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), responding to Swift’s endorsement with humor, stating, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
Trump Uses Swift’s Intellectual Property for Campaign
Despite his apparent disdain for Swift’s endorsement, Trump’s campaign has continued to use the singer’s intellectual property in creative ways. In one promotional clip, women in pink “Women for Trump” jackets were seen lip-syncing to Swift’s hit song “22,” only for the song to abruptly switch to a remix of “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice, with new lyrics promoting Trump instead of Swift.

Swifties Outraged Over Merch
Swifties were quick to express their anger online, accusing the Trump campaign of “ripping off” Taylor Swift’s merch designs. Many took to X to vent their frustrations, with one user predicting a potential copyright lawsuit over the design.
- One user wrote, “I see a copyright lawsuit in the making based on the design.”
- Another commented, “All this is gonna do is increase Swiftie registrations to vote for Kamala.”
- A third user wrote, “Original thought has never been their strong suit.”
- Another added, “I can’t wait to see her go after him in a lawsuit. This will be epic.”
In addition, one user remarked, “But they have Britney Mahomes! Is that not just as good??” and another concluded, “Here are no ‘Swifties for Trump’.”
The Swift Response
As the backlash continues, it remains to be seen whether Taylor Swift will take any legal action against the Trump campaign for using her intellectual property, with many fans eagerly awaiting her next move.
