A tragic incident unfolded in Manhattan, New York City, USA, on Monday when a gunman entered a high-rise building and opened fire indiscriminately, resulting in four fatalities, including a police officer. Another individual sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
New York Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that the assailant, identified as Las Vegas resident Shane Tamura, appeared to have shot himself after the rampage. The attack began in the lobby of 345 Park Avenue, where the gunman targeted a police officer before continuing on the 33rd floor, home to offices including those of ‘Roden Management’.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch reported that Tamura arrived at the scene from Nevada, carrying an M-4 rifle and other firearms, and was captured on CCTV. Investigations suggest he acted alone, although the FBI is assisting to uncover more details.

Tamura’s vehicle yielded a revolver, ammunition, magazines, and medication prescribed to him. Las Vegas authorities noted his history of mental health issues but confirmed his possession of a valid firearms permit.
The tragic victims include the slain police officer, a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh, two men, and a woman. The motive behind the attack remains unclear as the investigation continues. The incident, occurring during evening office hours, prompted a swift and extensive police response, including the use of drones for surveillance.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed sorrow over the incident, echoing sentiments of grief and solidarity with the affected families. This incident marks the 254th mass shooting in the United States this year, as defined by the Gun Violence Archive.
