In a historic moment for North Texas, Amir Omar has officially taken office as the first Muslim mayor of Richardson. His election represents a major step forward for inclusive leadership and diversity in the region. A seasoned public servant and tech industry professional, Omar now leads the city of 120,000 residents with a bold, community-driven vision for the future.

Omar has called Richardson home for over two decades. A former city council member, he has long been engaged in civic life and community-building efforts. His campaign focused on neighborhood revitalization, responsible land use, and strategic development—priorities that resonated with a broad spectrum of voters.
“I’m Amir Omar, and I’m the mayor of the city of Richardson,” he said proudly. “Representation matters. My election is a reflection of our city’s commitment to inclusivity and progress.”
Although Omar’s Islamic faith is a source of pride for many in the community, he emphasized that his campaign was not based on religion, but on leadership and practical solutions.

Born to Palestinian and Iranian parents, Omar brings a multicultural perspective to City Hall—one that mirrors Richardson’s increasingly diverse population.
“Yes, the Muslim community was excited,” he acknowledged. “But they understand that my role as mayor is about delivering results, not promoting religion.”
Omar’s message throughout his campaign centered on unity, civic engagement, and long-term planning. He aims to revitalize aging neighborhoods, make strategic use of limited development space, and maintain Richardson’s status as a thriving, high-tech city.
“The voters were clear,” Omar said. “They wanted a leader with vision and integrity. I’m honored to be that voice.”
While he noted that there were occasional instances of bias during the campaign, Omar said such reactions were rare and vastly outweighed by widespread support.

Now at the helm of one of North Texas’s most dynamic cities, Mayor Omar is committed to leading with transparency, inclusivity, and purpose.
“This is a defining moment for our city,” Omar said. “It’s not just about making history—it’s about shaping the future. I’m ready to work for every resident of Richardson, and I believe we’re stronger when we move forward together.”
Omar’s election marks the beginning of a new chapter for Richardson, where diverse voices are represented, and leadership is rooted in service, not symbolism.
